Restoring The Foundation
The Vision of Family Matters Community Development Corporation (CDC) of New Jersey is to Rebuild and Restore The Foundation! Family Matters CDC desires to rebuild the foundations of our community and restore the neighborhoods in which we live in. Family Matters CDC will provide services that will focus on empowering the family as well as the community for success, while encouraging entrepreneurship and economic development.
Family Matters Community Development Corporation is a 501(c)(3) principally located in Voorhees, New Jersey. Organized in August of 2016 by The Family Church NJ (a nondenominational church), Family Matters’ aim is to engage in a broad range of strategies that promote community health, education, and social development within the tri-state area. Being in our early stages of development, our purpose has centered on Rebuilding, Renovating, and Restoring the foundations of our neighborhoods in Southern New Jersey. Our two core programs are:
-
Family Matters Youth Mentoring Program (mentoring at-risk youth in Camden)
-
Family Matters Food Kitchen and Distribution Program (facilitating food collection and distribution for local families in need)
Family Matters CDC aspirations are to expedite our purpose and seek capital to transform our 69k square foot building into a multi-use community performing arts center (multi-million effort). We are also seeking technical assistance dollars to launch programs targeting the following programs:
-
Youth: Expanding our Family Matters Youth Mentoring Program to accelerate our goal of breaking the cycle of fatherlessness and motherlessness. Participants are prepared with life skills, character development and integrity. Various opportunities in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and the arts, while empowering them to make responsible decisions in helping them become successful and responsible adults
-
General: Expanding our food drives and standing up “Free Markets” in order to provide food, clothing, household items, furniture, recreational equipment, and other items and services to community members in need at no cost.
-
Facilitating general literacy, financial literacy and wellness literacy programs.
-
Providing before/aftercare programs for community school children for communities in need.
-
Providing positive child and youth development programs for children.
-
To establish a Family Community Center, available to members of the community for the purpose of family strengthening, connection and activities.
