“Running Out of Time” Part 1

Updated: Apr 29, 2021

11 This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living.

Romans 13:11-12 (NLT)

As we live this life, we think that we have all the time in the world to use as we choose. Some of us devalue time while others simply waste time. There are people and situations that actually steal some of our time as well. Tonight we are going to embark on a new series called, “Running Out of Time“.

What is time?

Genesis 2:15-17 (KJV)

15 And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

3 Descriptions of time:

Genesis 8:22 (KJV)

22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

  1. Time - Denotes a beginning and an end, and it measures change or movement.

  • Time allows a person to know when one season has ended and the opportunity for a new season to begin.

  • Time allows a person to recognize what needs to be put off and put on in the new season.

2 Peter 3:9 (NLT)

9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

  1. Time - Is the mercy of God.

  • Time from God is man’s second chance.

  • We often feel like God is late or slow in HIS responses when in all actuality, it is God’s mercy giving us time to get it right this time!

Genesis 3:24 (AMPC)

24 So [God] drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the Garden of Eden the [a]cherubim and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep and guard the way to the tree of life.

  1. Time - Is the degradation of eternity.

  • We were never created to live in time; we were created to live in eternity.

Time has been given for the purpose of restoration.

Joel 2:25-26 (AMPC)

25 And I will restore or replace for you the years that the locust has eaten—the hopping locust, the stripping locust, and the crawling locust, My great army which I sent among you. 26 And you shall eat in plenty and be satisfied and praise the name of the Lord, your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you. And My people shall never be put to shame.

The key for restoring time:

  1. Pursue your purpose/passion only!

  • Not every invitation is a blessing.

  • Not every opportunity is a blessing.

  • Satan’s greatest weapon against a person’s time is distraction, not sin.

  • Not everything that is good is right.
