1 John 3:20 AMPC Whenever our hearts in [tormenting] self-accusation make us feel guilty and condemn us. [For we are in God’s hands.] For He is above and greater than our consciences (our hearts), and He knows (perceives and understands) everything [nothing is hidden from Him].
We have learned that Guilt, Anger, Greed, and Jealousy are the four primary enemies of the heart. Every one of these four invaders of the heart is fueled by the notion that somebody owes somebody something. And it’s this debt dynamic that gives each of these monsters its power.
Today we will get to the heart of the matter and receive healing for our heart’s deepest offense as we fight to finally admit, God, I’m jealous, and You owe me!
Exterminating enemy number four: Jealousy
#4 Jealousy: God owes me.
When we think of jealousy, we think of the things others have that we lack.
The hidden truth of the matter is that our real problem isn’t with the people whose stuff we envy; it’s with our Creator.
Envy - The emotional belief fueled by the hurt that feels God owes me. Therefore, I will hold a grudge until He repays what He owes me!
Read James 3:13-16 NLT
Until we face up to this simple but oh so convicting truth, jealousy will continue to terrorize our lives and wreak havoc in our relationships.
The problem: Our desires: Trying to fill a bottomless pit.
Read James 4:2 AMPC
James is looking beneath the surface at the unquenchable thirsts that are constantly swirling around our hearts: money, recognition, success, progress, intimacy, sex, fun, relationship, partnership.
These are only results of serving God, not the goal!
The more we feed an appetite, the more it escalates in intensity.
When we don't get what we want, we become jealous and compare ourselves to what someone else has.
The solution: Keys to removing all jealousy from the heart.
Read James 4:3-4 AMPC
#1 Confess to God that your root problem is that you’re not getting your way.
#2 Thoroughly and completely dump your desires and anxiety on Him!
Read James 4:8 AMPC
#3 Exchange your desire for His design/nature.
#4 Receive the good and perfect gift.
James 1:13-18 NLT
13 And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and He never tempts anyone else. 14 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15 These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.16 So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. 18 He chose to give birth to us by giving us His true word. And we, out of all creation, became His prized possession.
This is what can only satisfy from the only one that can give it to you!
