Authority: Getting Back What I Gave Up! Part 2

Luke 10:19 AMPC 19 Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you.

Introduction

Authority is not something you automatically receive with a title. It is intrinsic (natural). It does not have to be “worked up” or assigned by a person —only released and developed by God, the author of all authority! Today we will continue the process of releasing our God-Given Authority and Get back what we gave up!.

Authority - Hebrew for Exousia – superhuman power, competence, and freedom to fulfill the purpose for which that person or thing was placed on this earth.

  • True authority can only be developed and released when we acknowledge and submit to the source and take our place!

Psalms 8:3-6 NLT 3 When I look at the night sky and see the work of Your fingers–the moon and the stars You set in place– 4 what are mere mortals that You should think about them, human beings that You should care for them? 5 Yet You made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor. 6 You gave them charge of everything You made, putting all things under their authority–

  • The only one designed to be greater than you in the earth is God!

  • The proper order of authority in the earth. God – Mankind – Angels/Demons.

What is the major enemy of personal authority?

Galatians 5:1 KJV Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

#1 Enemy of personal authority - Offense and Pride-Comes from the Greek word scandalon.

  • This word describes a trap used to hold the bait to lure animals. Similarly, offense is the bait the enemy uses to trap us.

  • He will use people’s words and actions to get into our minds and stir up our emotions.

  • He uses this bait to lure us into a lifetime of bitterness, resentment, unforgiveness, strife, hatred, and revenge.

Offense causes a person to give up personal authority causing Distortion in three areas.

Three areas that offense and pride diminish your personal authority:

#1 Your Vision

  • Vision takes a person to their destination. Vision creates room for the next level and enlarges your capacity.

  • The enemy wants to blind your vision in order to shrink your capacity so that stagnancy prevails.

Psalms 37:4 KJV 4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

#2 Your Desire

Offense and pride suffocate Godly desires causing frustration to set in. When we are frustrated, we frustrate the grace of God by being too focused on outward circumstances or inward thoughts to focus on Him!

#3 Your Voice

One of the enemy’s joys is to silence our voices and make sure the authority of our voice is lost.

Jeremiah 33:10-11a NIV 10 This is what the Lord says: ‘You say about this place, “It is a desolate waste, without people or animals.” Yet in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted, inhabited by neither people nor animals, there will be heard once more 11 the sounds of joy……

  • Offense and pride cause us to lose our voice of joy when we speak words of doubt, deceit and ungratefulness birthed out of the pain that we held onto a refused to surrender to God!

Humility and forgiveness break the Back of offense and pride, allowing God to give back what we once gave up!
